Improving Household Waste Recycling Centres Performance 

We focus on maximising recycling rates at HWRCs.  We currently operate over 30 HWRC sites for 6 Waste Authorities in England and Wales, and our philosophy is to target zero waste to landfill through making recycling a pleasant and easy activity for members of the public.

Our typical site looks to collect over 20 different waste streams and our staff work hard and are incentivised to assist members of the public to maximise their recycling activities. We are aware that the HWRC service is often a tangible sign of a Local Authorities’ commitment to recycling and we focus on making the service that we provide entirely consistent with the educational messages provided by the Local Authority.

Use of Compaction Equipment

We promote the use of compaction equipment.  Compacting waste reduces the number of transportation journeys required which saves fuel costs and carbon footprint.

Compactors can be used for green waste, cardboard, and residual waste and other recyclates where the volumes and site layouts allow.   The benefits of compactors include:

Reduced carbon footprint - increased payloads, less miles per tonne

Secure overnight storage - the compactors are shut down with the ram inside the Container or the hopper doors can be locked to prevent access.

More hygienic – sealed containers do not allow access by rodents.

Less space – improves segregation & allows more waste streams to be recycled

Significantly reduces the amount of vehicle movements on site

Access to online tonnage data

Our in-house IT team have developed an internet based tonnage reporting system to give real-time information to authorised users. The On-line Tonnage System means that there is 'one version of the truth' for both our own management team and our Clients to use as a basis for decision-making.

Clients have on-line access to the volumes of waste and recyclates produced, via a password protected, secure internet link.  The On-Line Tonnage System can be accessed from any internet-connected PC via our website using a secure username and password
