Part of what makes Environmental Waste Controls as successful as it is are the highly motivated people who work here and their enthusiasm and drive to achieve results.

We offer training and support to all employees in all levels of qualifications including:

  • Basic literacy and numeracy,
  • NVQ 2, 3, and 4,
  • Masters Degrees, and
  • PhD studies.

Training

Environmental Waste Controls plc believes in maximising the potential of staff and we encourage staff development and succession planning, with a preference to promoting internally wherever possible. We recruit local people who are customer focused and proud to protect and improve the environment.

We recognise the value of training and our aim is to use every resource available to promote and encourage development.

New employees are effectively supported and integrated into the company through effective leadership and thorough induction training which includes a Health & Safety awareness session relating to legislation, duties of employees and hazard awareness relating to their work.  Employees are advised of the locations and availability of key Health and Safety documentation and other information relevant to their duties, tasks and responsibilities.

By nurturing our staff we have been extremely successful in maximising skill levels and all employees are encouraged and sponsored to gain further academic qualifications and skills, for which they may be financially rewarded.

All managers are offered the opportunity to achieve NVQ level 4 or above and all site operatives are offered the opportunity to achieve NVQ level 2.

In the last twelve months we have had a 98% uptake from staff doing NVQ level 2.

Our drivers undertake CPC hours and best use of vehicle, and we are introducing NVQ's for drivers and engineers.

Environmental Waste Controls has a Training & Development Manager who has developed a training and skills matrix to allow the monitoring and refresher training programmes to be introduced to ensure all staff are regularly updated on the knowledge and skills to undertake their role.

We have developed a robust customer service training package, delivered by our in-house staff to ensure that members of the public and other visitors to the sites are treated with courtesy and diplomacy.  The basis of our training is communication skills.  We emphasise that every conversation is an opportunity to reassure our customers that they have made the right decision to visit the site and that Environmental Waste Controls are different.

We train our staff to recognise customers' concerns and not to jump to conclusions without knowing all the facts.  They are shown how to listen effectively, and communicate with a pleasant personality and positive attitude..

To this end all staff are fully trained, totally competent and multi-skilled.
